Other requirements | At least 2 reference(s) must be provided. - You should aim to provide 2 academic references but employer references are also accepted A motivation letter must be added to your application. One of the most important parts of your application is the motivation letter. Its goal is to introduce your background and support your application. In short, its goal is to answer the question: Write in a clear and logical manner: remember, the way you write and present yourself says a lot about you. Do not plagiarize as this will mean automatic disqualification from the evaluation process. Some points that may help you answer this question:
Click here to check our How to write a strong Motivation Letter or Statement of Purpose video on YouTube. • Personal and Educational Background Information (CV) • Candidate’s GPA should be above 2.80 and an average grade of four fundamental physics courses (PHYS 201, PHYS 301, PHYS 302, PHYS 401) should be above 2.8 • 2 Recommendation Letters • English proficiency test score (for those applicants whose native language is not English) – TOEFL Internet-Based: minimum score of 80 (exams taken in Turkey must be carried out at the test centers in state universities) – YDS/e-YDS/YOKDIL: minimum score of 80 (for Turkish applicants) • ALES (for Turkish applicants) /GRE (for international applicants) test score • Official transcripts from all the university degrees completed • Statement of Purpose |

Overview
Physics has always remained and still is at the center of science and technology. The laws of physics that are reached through observations and careful experimentation find applications from the subatomic particles to astronomic formations such as stars and galaxies. On the other hand, the design of advanced technology materials, fabrication of semiconductor devices, the development of optical communication systems have all evolved as applications of physics.
Our department has both theoretical and experimental research activities. Quantum information theory, gravitation, and condensed matter physics are among our theoretical research interests. On the experimental research side, we have three advanced laboratories where we focus on solid-state lasers, optoelectronic, and nano-photonic materials and devices.
Physics graduate and doctoral programs provide students the opportunity to develop themselves in the following research areas:
Photonics & Laser Materials Microphotonics Nanophotonics Quantum Optics, Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics Statistical Mechanics of Biophysical Systems Cold-Atom Physics Gravitation, Cosmology, and Numerical Relativity Mathematical Physics Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Information Theory Theoretical High Energy Physics.
Programme structure
In addition to course work, students are engaged in thesis research. Every student is supervised by an advisor. The M.S. Program with Thesis option requires that the students successfully complete a minimum of 21 credits (with 7 courses) beyond a Bachelor’s degree.
In addition to the credit courses, students must complete the non-credit courses; PHYS 590 Seminar, ENGL 500 Graduate Writing, and TEAC 500 Teaching Experience.
